A viral infection caused by a rapidly mutating virus that can infect humans, birds, and pigs.

The Center for Disease Control recommends annual vaccination. Both inactivated (injection) and live attenuated (nasal) vaccines are available.

The safety and efficacy of each annual vaccine is determined retrospectively.

Adverse effects may include flu-like symptoms and Guillain-Barré Syndrome.
